The story
Opened in 1911 at the Vavin crossroads, the Rotonde was, along with the Dôme, one of the great cafés of Montparnasse, frequented by Modigliani, Picasso and Russian exiles.
In the early 1930s, Maria de Naglowska made it her headquarters: she met her first listeners there and gave improvised talks. Her disciples recount that the café owners gave her coffee and meals in exchange for the crowds she drew.
